Conventional analog RGB LEDs require 4 wires per LED and PWM signals to modulate intensity, making applications with many LEDs complicated to implement and requiring many pins on your MCU or additional IC.
Neopixel LEDs are RGB LEDs incorporating a serial port/bridge logic circuit. They are very easy to connect, requiring just 3 wires to control a group of several dozen interconnected LEDs, with each LED independently controllable in color and intensity!
This version has the format of the classic 5mm Leds, and has the advantage of diffusing light, perfectly mixing the 3 RGB components.
